Why You Have Been Saved
Holiness and blamelessness are attributes of those who willingly submit in obedience to God.
"For he chose us in him, before the foundation of the world, to be holy and blameless in love before him."
Ephesians 1:4
Imagine the scene: God the Father, in His omniscience, contemplates humanity and foresees the reality of sin. Understanding the separation sin would cause between Him and His creation, He devises a plan to bridge this gap. This plan not only addresses the problem of sin but also aims to destroy Satan, sin, and death entirely. The ultimate goal is for us to stand blameless before Him.
Ephesians 1:4 helps us focus on the purpose of our salvation. Paul is not discussing how we are saved but rather why we are saved. In Ephesians 5:27 Paul says, "He did this to present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or anything like that, but holy and blameless." Jesus' death was for our individual salvation and the church collectively. He intends to present the church in all its splendor, holy and blameless.
Holiness and blamelessness are attributes of those who willingly submit in obedience to God. God's predestination concerns the outcome of salvation, not its beginning. Those who respond to His call will ultimately reflect Jesus' image.
